AMAs 2011: Inside Hot Chelle Rae's Red Carpet Style Meeting

Chris GodleyFrom left: Ian Keaggy, Nash Overstreet, Ryan Follese and Jamie Follese. "It was like we were in the 1970s, we used to dress so much more rock and roll" says Hot Chelle Rae singerRyan Follese when asked about the band's style evolution. He and bandmates Ian Keaggy (bass), Nash Overstreet (guitar and, yes, brother of Glee's Chord) and Jamie Follese (drums) aresifting through a couple dozen shirts, jackets and pants lining every flat surface of a Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel suite, havingbeen tasked with choosing several outfits for their appearance at the American Music Awards on Sunday. And unlike their red carpet look at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards, the guys are going for some semblance of cohesiveness this time, rather than simply unruly rock star cool. That means no wild animal prints or red polka dots. Instead, clean lines and tailored hems, a shiny scarf here and a purple tie there for the band who'll play triple duty on Sunday's AMAs, performing the pre-show, presenting an award and as nominees for Sprint New Artist of the Year. "If we won, it would be insane," says Ian. Adds Jamie, "I'm giddy just thinking about it." STORY: Chris Brown, Adam Lambert and a $500,000 Performance: AMAs EP on What to Expect Sunday It wouldn't be a shocker. After all, the Nashville foursome has had one hot year, racking up hit singles with "Tonight, Tonight" and "I Like It Like That." A little more than a week after their AMAs bow, they'll release their second full-length, Whatever (out Nov. 29), which came together in lightning speed -- just under two months including pre-production. The guys were clearly inspired. "The last year has been crazy and because of that, all of the emotions have been heightened that it's enabled us to write and record music from a place that's different for us," says Ryan. "We're going, going, going and missing your families and going through relationship problems..." "It's been so much fuel," adds Nash, "but we're also having way more fun than we've ever had." That was evident as the four continued their hunt for outfits, needing even more ensembles for future media appearances on The Tonight Show, Today and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. "'Never be caught looking bad,' that's pretty much our philosophy," cracks Jamie as buzzwords like "classy" and "classic" make their way around the room. VIDEO:American Music Awards: Lance Bass, Sarah Hyland Sound Off on Red Carpet Pre-Show "I'm all about how you wear your clothes," says Nash. "It's like, so many people can have the same pair of jeans but it's how you wear them -- maybe two inches lower than you're supposed to, or maybe higher. I like to have my jeans so close to skintight and then two sizes too big so they're more slouchy and I can drop them a little if I want." While on the surface, the guys seem like the perfect shopping partners, it's not quite the case, says Nash. "We don't mind shopping for ourselves but it's worse for [the] girlfriends because they don't get to go to their stores. If we didn't care at all, it would be easier." Touché. Look for the Hot Chelle Rae guys on the AMAs pre-show, kicking off on ABC at 7:00 p.m. The band is slated to play two songs. Also, check out details about their wardrobe choices for the big night below: VIDEO: 2011 American Music Awards: Adele Leads With 4 Nominations Nash:"I chose a dark, classic tuxedo by Topman. They're a litle bit ahead of the American curve but not so far out that you don't understand it when you see it. And I always have to have some kind of flash. Between the purple lining of this jacket and the purple tie, I've got it covered." Ryan: "I'm wearing a shiny silk-like blazer, a sheer thin black top, tight faux leather Zara pants and a shiny silk Reiss scarf. The shoes I found in London, on Brick Lane. I like suits and scarves -- I'm kind of an old person trapped in a young guy's body." Ian: "I wanted something kind of classy so I got a navy blue pair of G star jeans -- tailored a little big tighter, as we do -- a stark white shirt by Zara and a Topman blazer. It's a little less than the VMAs when I went with a red polka dot blazer with a matching red polka dot shirt, but I'm still very happy about that outfit." Jamie:"I've got a little classiness going on -- a button-down H&M shirt with the pinstripe suit jacket. I'm not rocking the vest [that came with it], but H&M is my brand, apparently." The Keystone Oil Pipeline Controversy: What Hollywood is Saying

The controversial Keystone XL Pipeline has garnered a slew of high-profile stars speaking out in opposition to the proposed project that will transport crude oil 2,000 miles from tar sands in Alberta, Canada to the Gulf of Mexico.our editor recommendsMark Ruffalo to Get Green Award for His Fight Against Fracking'Occupy Wall Street Hollywood': Entertainers On Scene of Protests PHOTOS: 10 Entertainers Democrats and Republicans Love to Hate Robert Redford, Mark Ruffalo, Kyra Sedgwick and Julia Louis-Dreyfus are among the actors in opposition to the project. Environmental activists who are fighting it say that it will increase America's dependence on fossil fuels and, because of the possibility of leaks, endanger groundwater supplies in the Midwest where the pipeline will run. It will run through the huge Ogallala Aquifer and Nebraska's Sandhills wetland ecosystem. On Sunday, Nov. 6, more than 10,000 protestors, including Ruffalo, created a human circle around the White House. Over the summer, actresses Daryl Hannah and Margot Kidder were arrested protesting the pipeline. Approval of the pipeline does not require actions of Congress, only the signature of President Obama, who has not signaled how he will act. He recently said: "My general attitude is, what's best for the American people? What's best for our economy both short term and long term? But also what's best for the health of the American people?" PHOTOS: 'Occupy Wall Street Hollywood': Entertainers On Scene of Protests Here's what Hollywood is saying about the Keystone XL: Mark Ruffalo: The days of just sticking a straw in the ground and having beautiful concentrated carbon-based energy bubble up to the surface so easily are over. We're entered this era of just really radical and environmentally harmful forms of extractions, tar sands, hydro-fracking, mountain top removals and even nuclear. All of these things destroy water. They destroy fresh water, each and every one of them. ... Our politicins aren't necessarily looking out for the 99 percent's best interests. ... We invite the President to make good on his promises about a real renewable policy for the United States, ending our addiction and tyranny to carbon-based fuels. If he doesn't do it, he will be left in the dustbin of history." Robert Redford: The Keystone XL pipeline would carry the dirtiest oil on the planet from Canada to America's Gulf Coast refineries and ports. It would firmly wed our energy future to the destructive ways of our past. It would promote one of the most damaging industrial practices ever devised to coax low-grade crude oil from tar sands. In piping tar sands across our country, it would expose Americans to the kind of ruptures and blowouts that in just the past year have brought environmental disaster to the Yellowstone River, to the North Sea, to the Gulf of Mexico. And for what? The enriching of the oil industry, that's what. They posted profits of more than $67 billion in the first half of this year. Julia Louis-Dreyfus: Remember when President Obama said, 'Let us be the generaetion that ends the tyranny of oil.' Man, that was great except I just checked and big oil is still pretty much running the show. But Mr. President, you've got a fabulous chance to turn that around and make good on your word. As we speak some very greedy guys are trying to make some very big bucks building a very, very dangerous pipeline that would carry an especially dirty form of oil called tar sands oil from Canada right through the heart of the United States. ... Who can stop this mega-stupid mega-pipline? You can President Obama. ... See an international pipeline like this one needs a permit directly from you, the President of the United States. Denying the permit for a brutally stupid money grab like the Keystone XL pipeline is a no brainer." Darryl Hannah: It's just unbelievable that it's even in consideration. It's coming from the Canadian tar sands, which are recognized as the world's largest and most hideous environmental atrocity. Not only did they deforest an entire section of the boreal forest, but they've left behind a fifty-mile-wide toxic slurry pond that's so large it can be seen from outer space. I feel that if Obama approves this pipeline that he is sentencing us to our dependence on fossil fuels. It's just insanity because the pipeline, it's not a possibility it might spill, it's inevitable that they have spills. We need that money and those jobs that are gonna go toward this pipeline to go toward real solutions, American U.S.-made community-based energy like solar, like wind, like geo-thermal. These things are happening, are already available. Kyra Sedgwick: Every day, I take it for granted that when I turn on the faucet, clean water will come out. Please join me and nine Nobel Peace Prize winner including the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu in asking our President to do what we voted him into office to do, protect our resources and us. David Strathain: President Obama is hearing voices, a lot of voices every day. For the most part they are the voices for the common good but sometimes they are the wrong voices like the voices of big oil companies that produces the dirtiest of dirty oil, tar sands oil. ... Presidnet Obama ran for office speaking of the dangers of our fossil fuel addiction, promising to fight climate change and to fully embrace a clean energy future. News Corp's IGN, Shine Group Partner for YouTube Gaming Funnel START (Exclusive Q&A)

Included in YouTube's new purchase of entertainment channels, News Corp-possessed IGN Entertainment has joined with Elisabeth Murdoch's Shine Group company Reveille to build up a brand new slate of broadcast-quality shows targeted in the growing gaming demographic. The series, that will vary from short-format to television-length, will debut at the begining of 2012 on START, YouTube's new gaming funnel created by IGN.our editor recommendsAnalyst: YouTube Channels No Immediate Threat to Entertainment CompaniesYouTube Announces TV Initiative With 100 Niche Channels IGN has attracted over 1 billion sights from the current YouTube choices, but has become taking production to another step using the intent of seeing some content migrate past the Internet. START will launch with new shows like Celebrity Assassin, IGN Professional Gaming, The Following Game Boss and Game Over. Roy Bahat, leader of IGN Entertainment, discusses Begin in this exclusive interview. The Hollywood Reporter: What exactly are your plans with START? Roy Bahat: We feel there's a gap in entertaining content about games on the giant screen. Games are the main leisure activity for men younger than 35. 90-1 % of youngsters younger than 17 play games. We feel that games, like a genre, ought to be symbolized with a specific item on television around sports, music, film and sci-fi and fantasy. There must be hit television content about games and that we just check this out YouTube funnel like a great opportunity to experiment and check for your. THR: Which kind of length are you currently searching at for this kind of content? Bahat: The space will probably be more than that which you typically might see for that Web completely as much as what might work with television. A few of the stuff will probably be seven, eight minutes lengthy. A lot of it may be twenty-two minutes lengthy as well as longer. THR: What is the rollout plan when it comes to when individuals would start seeing content? Bahat: At first, that's something we are doing together with YouTube. The moment the channels unveil we'll be there together. It's at first from the new twelve months, essentially. THR: What shows are you starting with? Bahat: The Following Game Boss competition series is one thing we are likely to expand on whenever we launch. It features a handful of episodes on IGN already and it is a real possibility reveal that enables players to obtain a job within the gaming industry. We are doing a bit of games news and things like by using Game Over, it is simply not really the predominant factor around the funnel. It will likely be just included amongst other things like Celebrity Assassin, where celebs get a game title controller and discuss their new projects, and IGN Professional League, that will concentrate on eSports. THR: For games news, could it be much like what we should see on the web today? Bahat: This is an broadened version of the items we have seen on the web most likely with somewhat different pacing. We are likely to be essentially supposing you are watching it on the giant screen and leaning back. We are going to try and concentrate on which makes it that type of content. THR: What type of production quality will these shows have? Bahat: One thing we have attempted really difficult to do at IGN is do stuff that's quick therefore we can capture footage here at work when somebody really wants to lick about a game title or say something funny, but doing the work at quality that appears great. What's great is the fact that each year the main difference from a Switch Cam then one that can take reasonably well-lit HD video, is really not too large any longer. The intent is for this all to appear great to ensure that this content makes brands feel at ease associating their title with. That isn't the case with user-produced content available or of all of the stuff that's shot at lower production quality. That's not saying we are likely to have ten-person deck hands. We are just going to pay attention to doing stuff that look wonderful, but they are easily to achieve that brands may wish to be connected with. THR: How can you check this out content varying from what we have seen Machinima use YouTube recently? Bahat: We have also labored very carefully with YouTube. You will find there's billion sights up to now online. I'd say Youtube is really a platform which has been your pretty fair way with all of partners. This content that YouTube has become funding will probably be not the same as everything that's presently around the platform due to there being likely to be more dollars starting this content. Which means you'll most likely see during these channels a smaller amount of the only content creator doing game play commentary and much more stuff that have Hollywood-quality talent focusing on them. There's great stuff being created by sole independent content men and that we love dealing with them, but I think you will visit a different type of professional quality of talent at the office. THR: Who're you dealing with from Hollywood on these projects? Bahat: Our partner in creating this funnel is Shine Group and they are the manufacturers from the Office, Master Chef and also the Greatest Loser. Our intent in this way ended up being to bring television quality content for this chance. Related Subjects YouTube IGN
