Thus Quoteth Back Stage to 'Saturday Evening Live'
This weekend's episode of "Saturday Evening Live" featured the return of former cast member Jimmy Fallon, who greater than rose for the challenge of his first-time hosting duties using what was easily one of the highlights from the already consistently funny season. Just one Fallon-free skit particularly caught Back Stage's attention.Behold Tommy Palemese's highly inventive, absolutely original one-guy show, "Half Jewish, Half Italian, Completely Neurotic." Your comments ought to have been in, and they're... factual? Watch the sketch below. While no "Dale Herschel" has ever written reviews for Back Stage, we're able to not help but be flattered with the multiple out-of-context (and hilariously ellipses filled) quotes credited towards the publication. Six of those, more particularly. Cheers to "SNL" for recognizing the first position Back Stage likes in fostering fledgling works which otherwise might fall by theoh whatever, enjoy the video!Check out the newest (legit) Back Stage reviews, from major Hollywood releases to off-off-Broadway finds.

From Von Trier to the Fassboner, the Top 9 OMG Movie Moments of 2011
With 2011 drawing to a close, your faithful Movieline editors are taking a look back at the year that was, starting with a catalog of the 9 biggest OMG moments in movies and moviedom. Celebrate the batshit-insane happenings, most shocking screen scenes, death-defying stunts, crazier-than-fiction episodes, and nuclear-level meltdowns of the year… and add your own favorites to the pile. Ah, memories! 9. The Human Centipede II Let’s kick things off with the moment at the end of The Human Centipede II when I glanced over and realized the woman next to me had passed out from the onslaught of depravity being committed onscreen and was in need of medical attention. Lucky her - she fainted right before the very worst of Tom Six’s uncensored director’s cut. I wasn’t quite so lucky. 8. Bridesmaids’ pooping Never go cheap on Brazilian BBQ, ladies. 7. The making of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol’s Burj Khalifa scene - or, confirmation that Tom Cruise is insane What’s a multi-millionaire celebrity to do when normal people kicks just don’t deliver enough excitement anymore? Why, run around the outside of a skyscraper a mile up from the ground because your stuntman is too afraid of heights to do it himself. In. Sane. cue golf clap 6. Drive’s brutal, gorgeous facestomping It’s the most delicately moving and gorgeous moment in Nicholas Winding Refn’s Drive: Ryan Gosling delicately moves Carey Mulligan into the corner of an elevator for a sweet, tender kiss - one so pure, so spiritual, that a heavenly glow emanates around them with the pulsing of true love. And then, in a flash - IT’S FACESTOMPING TIME! Few scenes this year left me this breathless, in more ways than one. 5. Madonna and hydrangeas The erstwhile Material Girl did nothing for her reputation, or her film’s PR profile, when she was caught on camera heartlessly rejecting a fan’s bouquet of flowers at the Venice press conference for W.E. (I mean, obviously. Didn’t that guy know she loathes fucking hydrangeas? What was he thinking?!) Even better: Madonna’s response to the media brouhaha that ensued. She’s not sorry! Let that be inspiration for us all in 2012 - do something insane in the new year and don’t apologize for it. 4. The Skin I Live In reveal If you’ve seen the new Almodovar then you know what I’m talking about here, and if you haven’t? GO WATCH NOW. 3. The fearless skydiving in Transformers 3 Michael Bay’s Transformers series may be built on extensive CG robots and action, but Dark of the Moon featured the realest, most impressive stunt of the year: Stunt performers wearing special wingsuits diving through the airspace above Chicago like flying squirrels, coasting on the wind at high speeds without a safety net, and in formation. 2. Lars von Trier The recipient of 2011’s Mel Gibson Award would be Danish firebrand Lars von Trier if Gibson himself wasn’t still so cray cray himself, but good ol’ Lars came close enough with his ill-advised Cannes Nazi jokes. Foot, lodge inextricably in mouth. The difference, of course, is that poor Lars wasn’t serious in his transgressions (see: Madonna above) but he was condemned - and actually hounded by authorities - nonetheless. 1. The unveiling of the Fassboner Acclaimed British thespian Michael Fassbender is one of the finest actors of his generation, and he delivers one of the best, gloomiest, tortured-est performances of the year in Steve McQueen’s Shame. But oh, that Fassboner. Worn so cavalierly like a trophy, a mark of prowess, so confident is Fassbender that he need not even be at full attention to be duly impressive. He may yet be a shower and not a grower, but what a show! And thematically appropriate still; imagine the fictional Brandon of Shame, so terribly damaged and yet so well-endowed, can’t help but work with what he’s been given. Phew. Is it getting hot in here? Drop your favorite OMG moments in the comments below and let’s hope for even bigger ZOMG happenings in the new year. Follow Jen Yamato on Twitter. Jeremy Renner on 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol,' 'The Bourne Legacy,' and Cure Might Play Steve McQueen
Jeremy Renner ought to be breathless at this time: Between filming action epics 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol,' 'The Bourne Legacy' and 'The Avengers,' he's been run ragged for that entertainment throughout the final 12 several days. While fans will have to wait to find out people latter films, 'Ghost Protocol' hits theaters on IMAX screens across the country this Friday (getting a national rollout to follow along with together with inside a couple of days), with Renner matching wits with star Tom Cruise. (Whom he is not overpowering for, incidentally.) The 2 occasions Oscar-nominated actor also provides a Steve McQueen project inside the works, through which he's slated to see the King of Awesome, although there's still no script and he's prepared to hands it to an infinitely more famous actor, should McQueen's family decide they "hate his guts." Where had you been when Tom Cruise was hanging hazardously from that tower in Dubai? The first time When i first seen it, I used to be on the ground, just trying to find, when he was practicing it. There has been some days we'd off since they were trading all day long lengthy with helis getting shots, floating the main one factor. The building's so tall that anywhere you're inside the city, you will see it and there's this little speck swinging throughout it. You'd look and think, "Observe that guy!" I'd be travelling, negelecting about him after which it shopping, acquiring a glass or two after which it research and go, "There he's, still carrying it out.In . Better him than I. God bless him. There is talk that you'll probably dominate the franchise, do i think the this be you climbing tall structures and hanging having a thread over the following movie? No. People will probably talk all they require. It's Tom's baby. He's the facial skin in the franchise and will also be. If he desires to go make another and they wish to invite me, then I'd be happy. However can't say whether I live or die or whether I'm good or bad. It's also why I like the level of smoothness, loved this part. It's a blessing to sign up the franchise. But you need to return for the next go-round? I am unsure, people have first arrived at see that certain. It's being effective. They're costly to produce. After which it there should be wish to have Tom and Vital to accomplish another. If they wish to get yourself a script together and throw my character in, then, hey: great. Will you have a seek another? Yeah. Once they so opt for your. Or they could tell me to piss off. You know what happens I'm speaking about? It's their call. Like all other franchise, you have to keep the options open. Let us say people hate the level of smoothness or perhaps the character doesn't exercise? Everything anybody could focus on was the task at hands. Also it might be a sizable task to conquer. But you are overpowering the Bourne franchise? Yep. I'm control of 'Bourne Legacy.' Not applying over Bourne, to clarify. Individuals have that misunderstood. Right, you're playing a completely new character, not Jason Bourne. Yeah, yeah. Matt Damon is going to be Jason Bourne. Matt Damon isn't in this particular movie. Jason Bourne isn't within it, but it's still a Bourne movie. People request me, "How can that really work?Inch They don't have it. They need to start to see the movie. They'll start to see the congruency and there's a completely new number of figures. Would be the existing players coming back? Yeah, In my opinion there might be an overlap from the few things. Are we able to see Joan Allen again? I am unable to speak with a number of people things, because I possibly could 't be sure. This can be a whole separate part of people movies. [IMDB lists Joan Allen and Scott Glenn among the cast, with Albert Finney "rumored" to return.] It's the same author [Tony Gilroy] with these and our author may also be our director. It's the identical action director that individuals have for second unit that was also on 'Mission: Impossible.' So that it has that type of continuity. After which it what it's shot, the pace from this, a bad tone, is very similar. It's very documentary-style, similar to these. It's that intimate feel. The the complete opposite of 'Mission,' the large spectacle movie. It feels as if just a little city on set. Whereas with 'Bourne,' you appear as if you are shooting an unbiased movie. It's very intimate, merely a camera hiding in the room while a scene happens. So that it feels tiny, even though it is a large, large movie. It is good tempo and great action and great, great character stuff. You realize it's a Bourne movie. It's just avoid Jason Bourne. It's a new program, new number of spies, new number of obstacles. But same type of other things, In my opinion. Perhaps you have learn Krav Maga, like Damon did? No, I desired to understand all activities. [Laughs]. Though our fight team that's really bled over from 'Mission' to 'Hansel and Gretel' in addition to ''The Avengers' and 'Bourne.' It's virtually the identical males, all 8711. It's a stunt team that has different disciplines their expertise and therefore there's a sizable mishmash of whatever is ideal. Specially when it calls for [playing] a realtor, it is not about doing items that will always be fancy and impressive, it comes down lower to taking someone lower as rapidly as you'll be able to. To ensure that as reasonably as you possibly can. That has been the fantastic challenge, to make it happen which makes it look you're really which causes it to be happen. What's happening along with your Steve McQueen project? It's reaping helpful benefits from legs now at this time around. With James Gray submiting his first draft here next day or two. I'm really excited to determine it. In my opinion [McQueen] will be a interesting individual, only to understand diversely than generally everyone knows him. That's kind of why I desired to see the story that If only to inform. It's tough to carry out a existence story about somebody which makes it interesting, you understand? However when anybody's going to make it happen right, In my opinion James Gray might be the man to go to. If everything seems to obtain together, it'll meet up. Can it be a nontraditional approach to a biopic? I am unsure just what the hell's traditional and what's not. I'm a terrible guy to request that question. The primary one script Someone said was good, nevertheless it wasn't great. There is not a Steve McQueen movie, why have it you have to be good? It has to prosper. I'd rather not party anybody whatsoever, because it was a great script. Nevertheless it only decided to be speaking everything -- which i didn't know a good deal about Steve McQueen -- I already understood about. And I am unsure anything about him. Exactly what are you presently telling here? It absolutely was as being a one-around the sides newspaper view or something like that like this. It was not very broad. It didn't allow audiences into they, so let's understand him in yet another way. After I study him a little more, [I'm finding] the amount of a fascinating dichotomy of the person he was. And the way stingy and cheap, but generous. He will be a constant oxymoron of themselves. Even if he was pretend, I'd think, "The amount of a fascinating character." So yeah, I must explore these inner workings in the King of Awesome. Do you have his family's blessing? Yeah, In my opinion James has labored with Barbara [McQueen's third wife] about it. And so they accept you? I have not become that far. Nonetheless they don't hate you? I have not heard that either! Once they tell me, "Hell no, we hate your guts," maybe we'll get Difficulties to enter there. LAFCA Embraces Fox Searchlight's Awards Slate, But Almost Entirely Shuns Studio Fare (Analysis)
Fox Searchlight"The Tree of Life" Voting was conducted Sunday afternoon to determine the honorees for the 37th annual Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards, which will take plane Jan. 13 at the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles, and while no single film dominated the honors, one studio certainly did.our editor recommendsLos Angeles Film Critics Awards Names 'The Descendants' Best Film of the YearDoris Day to Receive Career Achievement Award From Los Angeles Film Critics Association Fox Searchlight has to be thrilled with the fact that its entire slate of 2011 awards contenders garnered prominent recognition today. Their top Oscar hopeful,The Descendants, won best picture (edging second strongest, The Tree of Life); The Tree of Life's Terrence Malick won best director, Jessica Chastain won best supporting actress (also for her work in The Help and four other films), and Emmanuel Lubezki won best cinematography (the group previously recognized him five years ago for Children of Men); Shame's Michael Fassbender won best actor; and Martha Marcy May Marlene's Antonio Campos, Sean Durkin, Josh Mondand Elizabeth Olsen won the New Generation award. Talk about an unbelievable showing. PHOTOS: THR's Actress Roundtable 2011 To me, it was very surprising that LAFCA completely snubbed The Artist, which has generally been a critics' darling ever since its premiere at Cannes (it was the NY Film Critics Circle's pick for best picture) and is probably the best picture Oscar favorite, and somewhat surprising that none of this year's quality big-studio movies -- especially Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (Warner Bros.), The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (Sony), The Help (Disney),The Ides of March (Sony), J. Edgar (Warner Brothers), Moneyball (Sony), War Horse (DreamWorks), and Young Adult (Paramount) -- were represented in any category, with the exception of one tip of the cap to Hugo (Paramount) in a below-the-line category (keep reading). THR's Writer Roundtable: 6 Top Scribes Talk Standing Up to Clint Eastwood, Dealing with Rewrites and Being Fired by Your Wife In several categoris, LAFCA echoed the choices of a number of the awards-dispensing groups that scooped it by a few weeks. Christopher Plummer (Beginners) continued his march to the Oscars with another best supporting actor title to go along with those that the Hollywood Film Awards and National Board of Review have already voted for him to receive; Rango reaffirmed its status as the front-runner for the best animated feature Oscar with another win to go along with its National Board of Review prize; Dante Ferretti's work on Hugo was recognized for best production design, as it previously was by the Washington D.C. Area Film Critics Association; and Werner Herzog's Cave of Forgotten Dreams -- though ineligible for this year's Oscars because it received a limited release last year -- cemented its status as one of this year's biggest critics' favorites by picking up another best documentary win to go along with those for which the NY Film Critics Circle and Washington D.C. Area Film Critics Association have already chosen it. STORY:Gotham Awards 2011: 'Tree of Life,' 'Beginners' Tie for Best Feature LAFCA also made a few bold choices that could give a bit of a boost to long-shot contenders. They voted to award their best screenplay award to Asghar Farhadi for the original script of his Iranian film A Separation (the first time that the group had ever given that particular prize to a foreign-language film). And they also singled out the Chemical brothers for their electronic score to the action-flick Hanna (on the heels of honoring Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' similarly unconventional score for The Social Network last year). THR's Directors Roundtable: How to Fire People, Who to Steal From, and Amy Pascal's Secret Advice Of course, LAFCA wouldn't be LAFCA without making a few way outside-the-box -- or at least way outside the more mainstream awards race -- selections, as has long been their tradition. For some reason, these often tend to come in the best actress category -- the last two winners of which were Yolande Moreau (Seraphine) and Kim Hye-Ja (Mother) -- and this year was no exception, with Yun Jung-Hee winning for Poetry, which only a handful of Americans who are not in LAFCA have even heard of, much less seen. Consequently, this won't thrust Hye-Ja into Oscar contention, however worthy she may be, but it will do for her what all of these early awards announcements do for all of the films and people they choose to single out: namely, to increase public awareness of and interest in them, which can make all the difference in the world for those contenders that were already a part of the discussion, even if only on its perimeter. "If you wish to be effective, you need to be uncomfortable," he stated. The fest's first Trailblazer in Animation Award was granted to Korean-American director Jennifer Yuh Nelson Saturday in an "In Conversation" event presented by Variety and moderated by executive editor, Steven Gaydos. Getting to existence "Kung Fu Panda 2" for DreamWorks Animation skyrocketed Nelson into becoming the very first lady to exclusively direct an animated feature from the major Hollywood studio - a procedure that required over 3 years. "Positive thing I love pandas," joked Nelson. Because the pic would be a huge box office success, "It's difficult to assume Katzenberg ever allowing you to go," stated Gaydos.Additionally to her act as a director, Nelson has labored extensively like a storyboard artist on projects for example "Spirit: Stallion from the Cimarron," "Sinbad: Legend from the Seven Seas," "Madagascar" and "Kung Fu Panda."Based on Nelson, the important thing towards the success behind "Kung Fu Panda 2" is not only the humor that Po brings together, but that he's a personality that's "very sweet, emotional, and humble." Nelson notes that this can be a characteristic which carries through Jack Black, who voices the cool panda. When requested if she sees today because the new golden age for feature animation, Nelson responded that they is especially astounded by the truly amazing variety in animation. "One factor that's really awesome at this time, particularly at DreamWorks, is the fact that all of the films are extremely different." The main focus is not on just making another movie that individuals would anticipate seeing, she noted. "Every one of them is extremely different. They appear different, they seem different, their tone differs, or being able to cost nothing to achieve that instead of attempting to squeeze into a specific genre is wonderfully clearing."Also introduced today in the honours brunch is really a China Canada Competition which will give Canadian filmmakers an opportunity to woo Chinese production companies and among the biggest domestic film marketplaces.
